Sleeping Giant Gold Mine: Property, Geology and Location Map
The Sleeping Giant mine is located 80 kms north of Amos. The mine property covers an area of 3,141 hectares.
From 1988-1991 and from 1993-September 2008, the Sleeping Giant gold mine was in production until it was placed on care and maintenance by IAMGOLD. At the end of 2008, cumulative production was over 1 million ounces of gold at an average grade of 11.44g/t. The mill has a rated capacity of 900 tonnes per day and can be readily expanded. The Sleeping Giant mill is the only mill in the area providing the Company with potential synergistic benefits as well as higher gold production should the Company’s Discovery Project, located only 70 kms away, prove to have economic reserves. Historical recoveries have been in the 97% range.
The Company expects there will be additional exploration potential at the Sleeping Giant mine as well as the surrounding property.
The mine is a typical “narrow vein” gold mine as is commonly found in the region. Mining methods are a combination of room and pillar, shrinkage and long hole depending on the grade and geometry of the veins.
